A MaxScript for very easy .dts Exporting!

If you have worked in 3dsMax to export .dts files, you obviously know the reason why I wrote this package. Basically..before Doit!, we all had to go through the time consuming dts setup and mind-numbing repetitive steps to export your model library to .dts. .. With Doit!, you just need to open your model in max, verify it’s sizing and click 1 button! Yes, 1 button! Doit! make the process of exporting object models so easy that ‘automated’ is an understatement!!

With 1 click…you can setup and export a mapmodel with 2 lods, box collision, bounds and all necessary connections! This makes it almost too easy. Seriously.

I call this “SuperSimpleExporting!”, with Doit!

The upper portion of Doit! ..is meant for a person that has a bit of dts setup experience.
It is not so difficult to learn this part of Doit!, in fact it may be your fastest way to learning about dts processing in max.

1. Opens Max’s grid panel. You can set it to use 1 unit to properly set your model size!
2. Copies your model to make an lod MultiRes::bodymesh, adds 4 detail dummies & connects them to the bip01 node. Renames your model to ‘bodymesh’ and connects it to the ‘MultiRes::bodymesh”!
3. Adds ‘details 2,64,128 and 256′ dummies to the scene, auto generates their lods and connects to the dummies to base01(if it exists) and the mesh@256 to the start01!
4. Creates the bounds of a selected object based on the objects extents!
5. Isolates the selection (this makes it faster to isolate objects imo)!
6. Opens the GG lodgui that is used for player meshes with multires!
7. BoxTrick! 1 click fix! (keeps name and hierarchy, soon-addition: to keep pivot location)
8. Creates 9 collision dummies and connects them to the base01 node (if it exists)!
9. Creates a simple box collision and a col-1 dummy, connects them to start01 and base01 nodes accordingly (if they exist)!
10. Emesh and Epoly buttons were added so that working on polishing your models, is easier!
11. Your basic embed shape button, but this one is not hidden in the utility panel!
12. PivotHero! [click:center pivot to selected mesh] [ctrl+click:toggles move pivot] [shift+click:centers pivot to mesh and mesh to 0,0,0] !
13. Adds a sequence|| to the scene, names it ‘ambient’ and opens the curve editor!
14. SuperSimpleSetup: your object will be setup into the hierarchy, a box collision setup is created, bounds as well and you’re ready to work further or export!
15. Epoly and Emesh buttons were added so that working on polishing your models, is easier!
16.Creates the Torque Red T paradigm object
The next buttons use the following labels:
C = collision (simple box)
L = autogen LOD
+ means included in process
- means not included in process

17.SelectedObject SuperSimpleExport -C -L no collision, no lod creation.. use this on props, small plants, fakewalls, things to become “polysoup’ed’..etc.. !
18.SelectedObject SuperSimpleExport -C +L no collision, autolod creation.. creates a detail2 lod model that has 33% of the main meshes verts!
19.SelectedObject SuperSimpleExport +C +L Box collision, no lod creation.. use this on props that don’t need lod but need boxcollision!
20.SelectedObject SuperSimpleExport +C +L Box collision, autolod creation.. creates a detail2 lod model that has 33% of the main meshes verts!
*About the “SelectedObject SSE” buttons: you can create a scene in max comprised of several meshes and then export them individually from that same scene! You simply select your mesh, choose your export button and Doit! automates the process and then cleans up all dts related information after the file is exported. It doesn’t get better than this!
21. an Export .dts button that is not hidden in the utility panel. It exports your dts!

26. Allows you to select the color of the render background!
